Who Am I?
I’m Cooper Smither! I’m a writer, sound designer, actor, and composer!
The idea of immersion has always interested me. Why are plays so engaging when you can see the stage? How does someone get lost in a book when they could just look away? Are those guys in Hollywood really getting absorbed by their role, or are they just being assholes?
These questions and more have led me to gather an incredibly multidisciplinary set of skills and a wide range of interests. Recently, I’ve gone from writing plays, performing on stage, and designing sound for theatre, to writing game narrative, voice acting, and designing sound for games. It’s a change; I promise, though, all of these disciplines are connected. It’s like building, living in, and decorating a house. They inform each other.
Through working with many different people on plays and projects, I’ve gone from uncompromisingly strange to compromisingly strange, but I’ve held onto a strong desire to toy with structure and narrative. This started with my fiction writing and has since seeped deeply into the way that I approach sound art and music.
